N. Scott Miller Fine Art

I love to paint. I paint whatever interests me. I paint for others. I paint for myself.

I also have painted for a particular place or occasion.

I find inspiration in so many different things that it’s hard to answer the question

“What kind of  painter are you?” I took my first art class at the age of 11.

Although I have taken classes along the way, I am  for the most part, self-taught

- trial and error, hour after hour, year after year.

This past year I have taken on projects that require a large format in order to incorporate a wide range of subjects and botanically correct detail. "Sandra’s Garden" was inspired by my sister-in-law's environmentally layered garden in Westport, CT, where she not only grows seasonal vegetables, flowers and herbs, but also tends a flock of laying hens and active bee hives, all working as nature intended, enhancing their world and ours. Hoping to engage the eleven grandchildren who often visit their grandparents, I incorporated one snail, one cucumber beetle, one horn worm, two butterflies, three chickens, four green tomatoes, five red tomatoes, six tomato flowers, seven lady bugs, eight bees, nine eggs, and ten zinnias.

Also included in the painting are zucchini plants, butter lettuce, red leaf lettuce, lemon grass, elephant garlic, rosemary and corn which Sandra does not grow, but I included because I love their wavy leaves. The painting now hangs in Westport, CT., hopefully covered with fingerprints left from finding the eighth bee or fat green horn worm.
